On this date in 1955 Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California on a 60 acre orange grove and with just 18 attractions. The 'Most Magical Place on Earth' has since turned into a major tourist destination in Orange County with something for everyone. At 2:30 p.m. on July 17, 1955 just one day before the public opening, Disneyland Park first opened it's gates to its first 11,000 special guests, it was also televised to nearly 90 million people. It offered (5) themed lands and (18) attractions. Today, there are over 50 attractions at Disneyland, as well as a whole new park! Disney California Adventure which opened in 2001 and is continuing to grow.. Two new sections of the park were recently opened, including Buena Vista Street, which is a reproduction of Hollywood in the 1920s, and Cars Land based on the two beloved Cars movies and their characters.
